On 5 June 2009, the 1st International Biomedical Research Encounters were held at the Marigny Hotel, on the theme of Neurosciences, under the high patronage and in the presence of the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the French Minister for the Economy, Industry, and Employment Christine Lagarde, and the French Minister for Higher Education and Research Valérie Pécresse.
The encounters were initiated by the Association of International Research Laboratories (LIR), and were between the best French public research teams and pharmaceutical manufacturers with the aim of developing public-private partnerships. Fourteen biomedical research firms took part in the first edition. Four innovative platforms involved in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases were brought to the fore at the event.
It was also on this occasion that the French President established the principle of renewing the International Medical Research Encounters every year, in order to enable the attending parties, both public and private, to take stock of the collaboration undertaken and of the commitments made.
Below is the report of the 1st International Research Encounters.
